His illustrations have been described as posterlike and are usually detailed distant views of the countrysides or cities. His cartooning style is distinctive, usually richly elaborated images with characters who speak only visually or not at all. He is associated with the Franco-Belgian comics style but has an international reputation. He is probably best known in the US for his many covers for 'The New Yorker' magazine. His best known French comic is centered on the character called Nicolas which he started drawing in the 1950s. Initially Nocolas appeared in 'Le Moustique' and within a few years appeared in 'Pilote' as 'Le Petit Nocholas'. This series centers around the experiences of a child and a child's interpretation of the world. 10.7"x8.7", 128 pages. Satisfaction guaranteed.. Signed by Author. First Edition. Hard Cover.
