Inscribed "This book is the lawful property of my friend Charles R. Codman who is to Boston what Andre L Simon is to London" and dated Jan. 24, 1941. Codman was a noted wine expert as well as an aviator in World War I (and winner of the Silver Star and the Croix de Guerre in World War I). Codman had been in France buying wine just the year before when the Nazis invaded and escaped on the last flight out of Bordeaux.
