Reverse gilt lettering on front is very clear and bright. Gilt lettering on spine is dulled but visible. Binding tight, hinges show cracks on paper in front. Front endpaper marred by eraser marks. Color frontispiece. boards : Common term for the covers of a hardbound book.
rubbing : Abrasion or wear to the surface. Usually
used in reference to a book's boards or dust-jacket.
dust jacket : A protective and often decorative wrapper, usually made of paper which wraps around the binding of a book.
