Lindsay 1795-1876 left three journals, or common place books, of his experiences performing surgery in Indiana: generally on the kitchen table, in his street clothes, and without anesthesia or antiseptics. A very personal retelling of the surgeons routine, detailed surgical procedures, and the travails of the patient. Black and white illustrations of surgical instruments, patients, etc. Image of cover appears rubbed, but is actually an accurate reproduction of the poor condition of an oil portrait of the author.
