Brown cloth with spine and cover titles and decoration, the spine title on a gilt background and the remainder on a black background. Dark grey endpapers. Publisher's advertisement on 12 pages following text. Front cover identifies this an Alta Edition. Myers, 10, does not note the existence of an Alta Edition of this title by Porter & Coates. The illustrations are drawn by Jules-Descartes Ferat and engraved by Charles Brabant. First published in book form as "Les Indes Noires" in 1877. In Very Good- Condition: edges and corners rubbed; ends of spine frayed; spine somewhat sunned; former owner's name on blank leaf following front free endpaper; pages are browning along edges but otherwise clean and tight..
