This was the second American edition. It was probably published in December 1878, although the title page states "1879" and it followed that published earlier in 1878 by George Munro, under the title "Dick Sand; or, A Captain at Fifteen." Myers, 15. In "Dick Sands" Verne portrays Africa of the mid to late 19th century, in particular focusing on the slave trade and its brutalizing influence on everyone touched by it.
