Gift inscription on back of frontispiece dated Christmas 1899. First appeared in book form in 1881 as "La Jangada, Huit Cents Lieues sur l’Amazone." English-language editions generally use "The Giant Raft" as the title of the whole work and "Eight Hundred Leagues on the Amazon" as the title of the first part.
