Feltham, Eng.: Hamlyn Publishing Group , 1964. 216 p.: illustrations; 25 cm. (10 inches). Light grey cloth with gilt-stamped spine and cover titles. Illustrated dust jacket. Brown endpapers. Originally published in French as Les Secrets des Chefs d'Oeuvre. The author discusses the use of x-rays and other scientific methods to discover the history of works of art. The study of the techniques used to produce a painting can reveal the evolution of the artist's vision, and in some cases it can change our understanding of which artist produced a work. A little chipping along the upper edge of the dust jacket, which also shows some sunning. A scarce copy of a very interesting look at artistic detective work.. Near Fine/Very Good.
